  Has Anybody Here Been Yet?

  has anybody here been to this summer's district convention yet?

  i was wondering if someone could give me a brief synopsis of what the drama was about, as well as any "new releases" that came out.

  i'm asking because i'm sure my mother will be calling soon with her yearly "how did you enjoy the convention, dear" conversation, and since i have no intention of going to the convention (or any meetings for that matter) but i'm not quite ready to tell her that yet, i'd like to be able to at least give her something to create the illusion i was there.

  my mother is coming to visit me next week.

  i haven't seen her for over 4 years.

  she thinks that somehow i am a completely different person since leaving the organization.

  I gave up so many dreams to be a JW that I didn't really have any about the new system other than animals. I knew there would be a lot of work cleaning up and turning the earth into a paradise but figured that for a while at least we might be living in communes and I would wind up cooking or teaching the women how to cook and sew all that domestic stuff that I hate but the teaching part I liked.

  After I left I picked up all those lost dreams like going to university and having a career. And I have learned some new skills that I enjoy that I never even thought about before.

  Isn't it rather disgusting that when they do behave in a Christian way they have to give a shot at preaching and get to count their time doing it?

  Support forum for those abused in WTS

  over the last few weeks a lot of people have come forward and posted stories of abuse while they were jws.

  these often were experiences as a child victim or a wife at the hands of an abusive husband.

  the forums are open to active jws and those who have left.

  i was raised a jw since childhood.

  besides the emotional trauma that comes with being an outsider from the rest of the real world, my father was phsically, mentally and verbally abusive to my 2 younger sisters and i. apparently my mother seemd to be so brainwashed with the ideas of respect for headship and all the other bs she didn't do anything about the abuse.needless to say my father was also an elder, sheperding the flock while at home beating his children senseless.

  after 20 years of this and all 3 children leaving home by the age of 16,something finally clicked in her head.

  Little I don't blame you for being angry. That these men get away with this is beyond reprehensible - it is disgustiung and criminal. I wish your family would have found us sooner. But you are here now and you will get a lot of support here. Many of us have been through similar experiences. Hang in there - it does get better even if it doesn't look like it now.

  I wonder how many of these stories are printed because the WTS knows just how bad things are and this is their rather subtle to remind folks to behave themseves. I always wondered about that stuff too. Perhaps one did it - even more than one but they are I think the exception and that makes me sad.
